Sports Acupuncture of New York and Connecticut

(Acupuncture & Dry Needling)

We treat sports injuries and back and neck pain. That’s ALL that we do. It is not something we do occasionally between treating other problems.

“Five days a week for twenty five years we have been treating athletes, dancers, and those who need their body to be in great shape to perform at their best. We know what your problem is and have treated it hundreds of times.

– Bruce Mandelbaum, L.Ac., LMT

Main Treatments:

Traditional acupuncture is often used along with Trigger Point work to expedite the healing process. Traditional Acupuncture treats some of the areas away from the injury  and, for centuries, it has been one of the most respected treatments for sports injuries. Together, these methods are a more powerful treatment.

Trigger Points in the muscles are the primary cause of most muscular injuries. You DO have them-we eliminate them-you go back your activity injury free and ready to perform at your best. It’s our area of expertise having successfully treated over forty thousand patients over our thirty years in practice.

Call with any questions about this work.

We use Deep Tissue Sports massage for a few minutes and sometimes more as a way to loosen up the affected area before the dry needling. Sometimes the injury will feel better even before we get to the dry needling. We want to utilize everything at our disposal to make sure that when you get out of bed the next day you KNOW you were worked on.

Testimonials

I go to Bruce Mandelbaum for acupuncture before every competition. He helps tune me up for my races and keeps me running at my best. Bruce has helped me with my hamstring, calf, achilles and back injuries as well. I recommend him for anyone with a sports injury.

I've been susceptible to chronic hamstring injuries throughout my college track career. Since undergoing Bruce's acupuncture I've had my fastest recovery from a hamstring strain ever! Bruce really took the time to consult with me and find out the nature of my injury. I would recommend Bruce to my teammates or anyone who has suffered an injury and looking for a swift recovery.

I have struggled with Achilles tendonitis on and off for many years. In November 2017 when I started training for my indoor season the Achilles pain got really bad and I wasn't able to train or run on it. I started seeing Bruce regularly for acupuncture and massage. I was able to resume my training again in December 2017 and have been running pain free ever since. The results have been amazing since I started regular acupuncture treatments. I was able to run two Personal Records in the 400m during my 2018 indoor season.

As an athlete, I have been through my share of treatments and therapy sessions, the majority of which left me with disappointing and inconsistent results. Bruce's ability to diagnose my problem and his expertise has kept me coming back for more. The results spoke for themselves; the hip discomfort I went there for started to feel better within twenty four hours. I plan on continuing to use him as part of my regular maintenance routine.

A few years ago I developed hamstring tendinitis and it was affecting my performance on the track. I saw numerous health professionals, you name it, and received frequent massages while the discomfort still lingered. I was referred to Bruce one day and after my first dry needling appointment I felt instant results! Whenever I have anything that impedes my performance in my efforts to continue to compete at a high level the first person I call is Bruce. We have developed a great relationship over the years and I always feel better after treatment.

As a physical therapist, I am well versed in muscle trigger points, soft tissue work, and massage therapy. After the aforementioned failed to reduce my glut pain during marathon training, I made an acupuncture appointment with Bruce. I had never received a treatment prior to this visit. I was nervous but immediately reassured by Bruce's clear explanation of what he was going to do and why before beginning our session. I felt incredible relief in the days that followed. I had more range of motion and diminished pain.

In training for my first marathon I developed some tendonitis in my foot. A fellow runner recommended Bruce Mandelbaum and said "he's a miracle worker”. I couldn't agree more. I went in for three treatments and magic, my foot was healed and I was able to train at a high level throughout the whole time. I am so appreciative for Bruce's help and highly recommend him. It's clear he is passionate about the sport and about getting people up and running again pain free!

Bruce Mandelbaum has been treating my elite athletes for over 20 years. He is the best acupuncturist in New York City which is why we have our Olympians working with him week in and week out. Bruce keeps our runners performing at their peak levels. I highly recommend him to treat even some of the most complicated running injuries.

I started seeing Bruce in the fall of 2018 as part of my running and training regimen. As an older runner, I was finding it difficult to get through aches and pains and injuries as quickly as I once did. Bruce changed all of that for me. Under his care I was able to train harder than ever and work through a hip injury that should have sidelined me for week to complete my 15th marathon and 5th consecutive Boston Marathon.

At my first Indoor meet, I strained my hamstring in the 60m dash and thought my season was over. Shortly after, I started visiting Bruce once a week and he performed acupuncture along with his deep tissue sports massage. After seeing Bruce for a little over a month, I was back to being healthy! I finished up my season qualifying for USA Nationals in the 60m dash.

Working with Bruce has been an incredible addition to my training regiment. About mid-way through my spring track and road racing season in 2018 I was experiencing tightness in my hamstring that wouldn’t subside despite how much I stretched and foam-rolled the area. Bruce’s ability to pinpoint the area of pain and work on it diligently over the course of a few weeks brought success to the end of my season. With Bruce’s assistance I was able to set personal bests over the course of five weeks in the 5k, 10k, 10k road and 25k. I am thankful to have worked with Bruce and will count on his ability as I continue to strive for my future running goals.

I started seeing Bruce for acupuncture back in May of 2016 and I've been a client ever since. I saw Bruce for my shoulder pain, which was a result of long extended periods of time working over a computer. His acupuncture treatments have helped to relieve the majority of my shoulder problems. I do visit him throughout the year to help relieve pain that accumulates because of the nature of the hunching over a computer as part of my work. I'm a true believer in the work Bruce does and will continue to send my friends and family to him so they too can benefit from his expertise.
